How to use Geographic Search

Use this geographic search to find places-of-worship based on the community name, or the province. The site default is Fatima in the Magdalen Islands ( French: les Îles de la Madeleine) which is quite central to the four provinces we have been working on (Newfoundland&Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward.island)

Change Location

The Change Location menu option will allow you to go into the search starting with your location of choice. There is a drop down feature as follows:

  • start typing the name of the community and then left click in the typing location: a selection of places that match that string will come up and if any match you can select the location of interest
  • enter the two characters province code (PE, NB, NL, or NS) and left click in the typing box: the province should be shown withing the selection being shown;

after making your selection the geographic searching tool should launch based on the selection you just made .

On the search page one can search for a string”search for” box, or in the “Near” box.

Do a Geographic Search

There are two methods on the search page:

  • a string search, which will look in the Title and description of the places of worship for a match.; and
  • a geographic name search which works the same way as the Change Location option above

Search results have the following features

  • results show as pins on the map ;
  • results also show as a grid with thumbnails attached to a description of the place of worship;
  • the grid can be changed by clicking on the 9-dot symbol;
  • hovering on a listing on the grid will be reflected by the pin on the map becoming “agitated”;
  • hovering on a pin on the map will display the place of worship title
  • clicking on a listing will narrow don the map to that location only;
  • use the browser back arrow to return to the whole search results.

  • 3 numbers for PEI places or 4 numbers for other provinces
  • sometimes a letter such as a, b, or c
  • one can see the same coding on watermark on the bottom left of the images
