A perspective on this province

New Brunswick is one of the three Maritime Provinces of Canada. With the passage of Official Languages Act in 1969, it became the only province of Canada with both French and English as its official languages.

It is part of the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq and Maliseet, and in 1604 settlement of Port Royale founded the New France colony of Acadia (L’Acadie) (which grew to include present day Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, the Gaspe region of Quebec, and the eastern portion of the State of Maine).

According to Statistics Canada, the province of New Brunswick has an estimated 781,476 residents1 as of July 1, 2020.
