Built after Halifax Explosion as worship centre for Presbyterians and Methodists whose churches, Kaye Street Methodist and Grove Presbyterian were destroyed and as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the explosion. Originally had 700 worshipers. When it opened in 1921 it was the first United Church congregation in Canada – 4 years before the official union of churches in 1925.
